THE LOCATION: Calling all Great Lakes Explorers! It's time to leave the skyline and head to the SHORELINE. This "Jewel of the North" is right ON Lake Superior's North Shore and beloved by guests who consistently provide 5-star reviews. This ALL-SEASONS Cottage is close (but not too close) to Thunder Bay and is approximately 1 hour drive time North of Grand Marais, Minnesota. Open concept design is updated & sparkling clean with a propane-fueled fireplace and new hot hub. The Cottage is one-level living, which is appreciated by everyone especially those with physical limitations. Private w/out feeling isolated. A close escape for those living in or near Thunder Bay & beckons to Americans who have not (yet) ventured past Grand Marais. INCREDIBLE VIEWS & the hiking trails are right out the door. Located in a safe, secluded, peaceful environment surrounded by nature's amazing canvas. Understated and over delivers.

LAKE SUPERIOR: This is Lake Superior SHORELINE property, which means not only are the VIEWS of Lake Superior fantastic -- it is LITERALLY in the front yard. Know the difference because nothing, NOTHING compares to being "ON" THE LAKE and hearing the powerful waves hit the shoreline. No roads or paths intersect The Cottage from Lake Superior. The house is situated on 2 acres and perched overlooking Lake Superior's shoreline, which provides second-to-none views of the surrounding islands.

THE LAND: The Cottage is situated on 2 acres and feels very private without feeling completely isolated. Guests love opening a window to hear Lake Superior's powerful waves crashing along the shoreline or being lulled to sleep while its laughing water plays along the coast. The perfect place to enjoy the moonlit sky and a gazillion stars! A Weber propane-fueled grill is located on the top deck ready for your next BBQ.

OUTDOOR FIRE PIT: Is the North Shore experience complete with toasted marshmallows over a lakeside campfire? It is your decision...but just in case a meandering path beckons guests to the shoreline’s wood-burning fire pit, which happens to be the most perfect place to build that campfire and memories sure to last a lifetime. 🙂

Comfy Getaway!
This is an incredibly clean, comfortable and relaxing place to stay right on Lake Superior. The amenities are wonderful: a hot tub on the deck for watching the sun rise in the morning, a patio over the water, bonfire pit and sunny places to sit (especially in warmer weather!). Perfect for unwinding!

Beautful view
The view was amazing! The porch was good. The hot tub was nice, but a little low on water. The speed at getting hot tap water was GREAT! Since there was no dishwater, my hubby (the dish washer) was a little disappointed in the size of the dish rack. Although there’s two acres, there’s still moderately close neighboring houses easily seen in winter. The owner was very responsive which we appreciated.

Restorative
My husband, brother and I savored our week's stay. The cottage was immaculate, the kitchen provided all we needed for preparing our meals. And the views of Lake Superior were spectacular. With the bedroom window open a bit and the sound of the waves I slept like a baby. We enjoyed the multilevel decks, especially the one that reached out over the water. Such a good space for reading and restoring. Although we didn't fish - we purchased local ly caught fish at a fish market in Thunder Bay. We enjoyed some lovely hikes and sites in the area including Kakabeka Falls and Trail, the Fort Williams Historical Park, hiked parts of the James Duncan Nature Trail, and explored Prince Arthur Marina. The owner was very attentive to our communications. We have spent considerable time staying near Gran Marais on the U. S. side - my wish to go "further up" to avoid tourists and to experience a more wilderness feeling was abundantly fulfilled. Definitely a place to return to.

Serene location on lake
This is a really lovely area about 20 minutes from the principal road (61). Quiet and serene on the lake. Very clean and straightforward to get to. Perfect for contemplating nature. Beds were comfy and water was extra hot! Plenty of places to lounge and relax and looking forward to going back.

The Cottage is updated with particular attention to cleanliness. I personally oversee to insure high standards are maintained and genuinely try my best to provide every guest a positive experience. I am thankful to have an opportunity to share this special place with you.

Guests will love the local farm-to-table options in the surrounding area. Award-winning craft cheese, incredible bakeries, dairies, farm fresh eggs, orchards and breweries.

Lake Superior commands the utmost respect for those venturing out on its waters and consistently over-delivers a powerful, spiritual message to those of us admiring its grandeur SHOREside. Guests are sure to feel "The Spirit of Gitche Gumee" and appreciate the surrounding nature, serenity and wild life.

I enjoy traveling and believe it broadens ones perspective of the world by teaching tolerance, patience, respect and understanding of all people & cultures. I look forward hosting you. 😌 Welcome! Bienvenue! Velkommen!

Why they chose this property

This spectacular place has brought cherished memories, healing escapes & heart-thumping adventures. It is truly one of my very favorite places in this world.

What makes this property unique

Thunder Bay is a cultural city with a Duluth-like-feel waterfront area hosting a harbor and walking paths. VIKING CRUISES is port-of-call here as part of their Great Lakes Adventure Series. Explorers make their journey to discover nature & history not seen or experienced anywhere else. Here you can discover some outstanding restaurants with creative chefs offering innovative cuisine. There are many fun, events and festivals year-round. Do not miss the BrewHa Craft Beer or Blues Festival held during the summer months. Be sure to check out: www.visitthunderbay.com for additional information.

Thunder Bay has an incredible and creative talented art community influenced by its rich, Native roots. Are artists drawn to this beautiful landscape for inspiration? Or does the amazing nature inspire people to express their innermost artistic talent? Guests are sure to appreciate unique, handmade crafts inspired and created in and from nature, nurture and culture. Do not miss the Thunder Bay Art Gallery.

Thunder Bay hosts an international airport, city centre & several universities. The city centre is close to the airport so guests who fly in have the opportunity to purchase groceries close by before driving to The Cottage.

Have you ever eaten a Persian? A Persian is a special pastry unique to Thunder Bay! Stop by The Persian Man Bakery and try one - they are pink, sweet and delicious.

Thunder Bay is close (but not too close) with all the conveniences a city offers. But I personally never want to leave The Cottage overlooking the ever-changing MAGNIFICENT Lake Superior. It always feels like a magical, beautiful, enchanting world away from everything else.
