On December 1, 2010, the cultural legacy of Marten Toonder (all the work created by Marten Toonder himself) was officially transferred to the Museum of Literature in Leiden by his heirs, and has been the property of the Dutch government ever since. In November 2018, the archives of Marten Toonder Studios were donated to the Museum of Literature in the Hague and the Eye Film Museum in Amsterdam. See the last picture. This lot concerns a Panda daily strip. It concerns an English daily strip from the Evening News of Panda from 1952. This is a strip from the famous story Panda en het geheim van het eenzame eiland. The strip has been edited for use in the English newspaper the Evening News. That's where the story was called Panda and the treasure Island. It is signed by Marten Toonder and his collaborator Harry Hargraeves, according to connoisseurs one of the best Panda draughtsmen ever. Hardly any panda originals are in circulation. The strip sits nicely in mat and is framed. That's included in this lot.
