About this property

Yoganot Beach House Cape Breton Nova Scotia | Enhanced cleaning measures

Yoganot Beach House is a unique Cape Breton home sitting on 35 private acres and its own private beach on the Gulf of St Lawrence. The house sits squarely in the center of that woodlot and affords a tremendous level of privacy for families, golfers, and fisherman or sportsman alike. Originally built as a yoga retreat more than a decade ago, we discovered the unused retreat and recreated it in the image of our family's beach and fishing house. Witness some of the most spectacular sunsets and sunrises from Yoganot's deck! Yoganot has its own private access to the Golf of St Lawrence and a beach thats nearly 2 and a half miles long and rarely occupied by anyone but you. Besides occupying its own 35 acres directly on the Golf of St Lawrence with 315' of beach front, Yoganot is surrounded by nearly 600 acres of ocean fronted woodland with only 4 homes on that land! None can be seen from Yoganot! Complete privacy and peace and quiet are the real benefits of all that woodland. Eagles and numerous seabirds are all around you! Yoganot is about 15 minutes or less north of the Cabot Links Golf Courses in Inverness, 35-40 minutes south of Cape Breton Highlands National Park on the Cabot Trail and 15 minutes south of the Margaree River Valley. A perfect place to relax, summer, beach, or fish from, the retreat is a wonderful place to enjoy the late Spring or Summer and
Fall months in Cape Breton.

The ultimate in getting away
The listing pretty much covers all of the many pros: acres of seclusion, a beach that we pretty much had to ourselves, a great screened in porch, a spacious house, a tidy BBQ on a sunny side deck with lots of lounge furniture. The refrigerator had gone out but the host was fantastic in getting a new one installed the same day we reported it! The house is very near the fantastic Woodroad restaurant. We had a great week here and would gladly return. Things to bear in mind: it is a long drive along poorly maintained roads to get to Inverness for shopping and cell/internet service; the mosquitoes were thick, especially on the path to the beach; the kitchen was adequate for two of us, but would be tight if cooking for a larger family.

Wild Cape Breton Splendor!
We had a lovely time at this gem of a home in the wilds of Cape Breton! It is way off the beaten path, but that is just what we were looking for. We went as a family of four, but there is plenty of space for a larger crew. One of the things we really enjoyed was having lots of tables and spaces to spread out. We had a puzzle going at the same time as a board game and were still able to spread out our seashells on one of the picnic tables on the deck, AND have a choice of where to sit down for dinner. There was a gorgeous beach about 1/3 mile down a grassy path. It is pebbly and the surf was rough, so we opted to wade rather than swim. We went down at least daily, and saw other people maybe once (and in the distance). My husband even saw seals one morning. The sunsets were spectacular and easy to watch from the comfort of the deck. One thing to note is that there is no television on the property, but there is a projector set up in the living room, and all the cables to connect whatever device you have were readily available. We had fun watching Netflix movies and feeling like we were at the cinema. The host did a good job labeling things in the house - including house instructions on the fridge, which light/fan switches belonged to which lights, where to take the trash etc. The only thing I might add would be instructions on the dehumidifier downstairs. It could get a bit damp when it wasn’t running, but improved mightily when it was. (We have a family home with a similar issue so we know the drill.) We did have one totally unforeseen hiccup - a sweet collarless dog showed up on the porch one afternoon and decided to spend the night. Kermit was super-responsive when we told him, and was as perplexed as we were as to whom the dog belonged. But through his help and the magic of Facebook we were able to find the owner and get the dog home. The basics were all great: clean comfortable beds and bathrooms; comfortable living areas; decently equipped kitchen and nice gas grill; plenty of towels/linens etc. In sum - we loved this place! It was lovely getaway to enjoy some peace, quiet and natural beauty.

Wonderful sanctuary
This is a great place to stay. The deck looks out to the water and an island beyond. It is so quiet and peaceful; it was hard to leave. The beach is a 5 minute walk and totally empty. It is a great place for a large family-- huge living room and lots of places to sit and eat. It also is fine for just two people-- we enjoyed having so much space just for us. If you want to go to the National Park, this is a great place to stay.

A great spot for large groups
Stayed two nights as four families. There was plenty of room; one master in loft and many downstairs (5 I think). Lots of natural light, and a 2 min walk from the beach [which was great as it was baking hot the days we were there]. 30 minutes from Cheticamp; 45 from Baddeck; just minutes from the Cabot Trail. Only downside is slight metalic odor from the well water (common in shallow wells in Cape Breton), but only a minor issue. I would recommend for larger groups.

Why they chose this property

Its location on more than 600 wooded acres of ocean front land provides a ideal buffer plus amazing views and isolation. Although very private it is also quite close to many wonderful things to do. The Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Baddeck is only 50 or 60 minutes away. The fabulous Cape Breton Highland National Park is 30 minutes north. Inverness is 10 minutes south with its now famous Cabot Links Golf courses. Some of the very best Salmon fishing on the Margaree River is only 15-20 minutes north up the Cabot Trail to the Margaree River Valley. Itself one of the highlights of Cape Breton, The Margaree valley is a pristine and wild natural environment with breathtaking views and scenery. The entire Cabot Trail is a fun thing to do if you simply want to circumnavigate the island of Cape Breton one day! All of that and sunsets to watch from your expansive deck at the end of the day!

What makes this property unique

Yoganot has a enormous 16 x 70 foot deck overlooking the Golf of St Lawrence. It provides a great place to sun, relax and sunbathe in a beautiful natural habitat. With 4 chaise lounges and 6 Adirondack chairs plus additional outdoor furniture, the outdoor deck is a great place for morning coffee or afternoon drinks and games! We've strove to add innumerable artistic touches to our Cape Breton home. From the antique furniture to the sea shell and drift wood mirrors, Yoganot is tastefully furnished with well preserved antiques and painted pieces we've collected for decades!
