About this property

Delightful Houseboat in the City yet close to nature.

A 10-minute walk from Glasgow city centre, Gerda of Glasgow is a beautiful dutch barge with all the comforts of home.

Suitable for up to four people, guests can enjoy an open plan kitchen/living space with a cosy log-burning fire, two bedrooms and two bathrooms (one with a shower and another with a bath) in a peaceful yet convenient location.

The space:

Built in 2017, Gerda of Glasgow is a unique place to stay in one of Scotland s most vibrant cities.

Close to the city centre and transport network, it is a fantastic base to explore Glasgow’s museums, art galleries, restaurants and nightlife. The Theatre Royal is less than a 15 minute walk and the Royal Concert Hall is just another few minutes from there.

If nature is more your thing, then just enjoy the ducks and swans paddle by as you take a relaxing drink on the rear deck of the Gerda - or go for a walk to the Claypits - a nature reserve with wooded walks and paths running alongside the Forth and Clyde Canal, between the Firhill and Applecross basins not a few minutes walk in the other direction.

Ask about the canoe we have on the pontoon which you are free to use for those wanting to explore the waterway at their own pace.

A few steps away from the boat is Ocho Cafe, a good spot for brunch or lunch with some excellent vegan choices available. Ocho Spa is a great choice for all your pampering needs, whether that is some beauty treatments before a night on the town or a relaxing massage (booking is advised).

Gerda is a fixed accommodation and unfortunately is not available for touring.

Guest access:
During your stay, you will have full privacy.

Interaction with guests:
We live at Speirs Wharf and will meet guests on arrival when possible. Alternatively, a code for the key safe will be given and a contact number for any questions you may have.

We are excited to also offer a lovely four-berth pop-top VW T6 Transporter campervan for rent to guests looking to extend their holiday in Scotland or who simply want a cool way of getting around while based in Glasgow.

Whether you want an adventure exploring the highlands and islands, cruising the North Coast 500, or just following your nose through some of the world's best scenery, you will find the VW Transporter T6 perfect for your needs.

Memorable Glasgow Stay
Thanks Jonathan, for our lovely stay on the gorgeous Gerda! Quiet, safe, clean and stocked with loads of comforts for adults and teens (WiFi works great, Netflix, games, kitchen). Surprisingly spacious, and the beds were really comfortable, delivering a restful night's sleep after full days exploring Scotland. Minutes from all the neighborhoods, and transportation stations, whether walking or taking a car service. And don't worry about warmth in the winter - the heaters and fireplace work great! A unique experience that we'll always treasure.

Vacation on Gerda
Staying on Gerda was a lot of fun for a week! Had a very livable living room and sleeping quarters and full kitchen! The owners are very attentive, hospitable and wonderful people. The neighborhood is very quiet and allowed us to sleep in every day we were there. A little walk to the center of town (15-20 minutes) but very close to a couple great coffee shops, Ocho and C7, which we enjoyed during our stay.

Get thee to gorgeous Gerda!
Finding this unique gem was the highlight of our trip! In a fantastic location, the boat is beautifully restored and very comfortable - especially important for my older parents. The location was fantastic and the owners were incredibly kind and helpful, even bringing over a bottle of wine to toast our celebration! This was an unmatched experience!

Loved our Floating Cabin in Glasgow
The houseboat was so comfortable and nice for us during our stay. The wood burning fireplace was a huge help with the cold night and was a great nice end to each of our travel days. the access to the boat was a little difficult with the security barriers to the wharf but once we got used to it was ok.

Unique
This was a unique place to stay. It was near everyplace we wanted to visit while staying. The "Gerda" was very nice, we have never stayed on anything like her before. It was our last stay before heading home to Michigan. What a way to end our vacation! Claire was great! Thank you!

About the host

Hosted by Jonathan Patrick

Host profile image
We are Chris and Jonathan adopted by Glasgow after successful careers and postings in international development and humanitarian aid.

We are part of a strong multi-national, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-cultural family that stretches from Laos to Thailand in the east through France and the UK to Washington DC and beyond.

We (largely) gave up careers in international development overseas to stay closer to home to raise our adopted daughter here in Glasgow. She adores being by the water and is a keen wild water swimmer, kayaker and second mate on the Gerda (aspiring to be captain when she's older)!

Why they chose this property

We love our adopted city of Glasgow for what it offers its native-born and adopted citizens. There is something for everyone in Glasgow and all visitors will receive a warm welcome (even if you find the Glasgow dialect hard to understand!)

What makes this property unique

The Gerda of Glasgow is the only canal boat in Glasgow available for short-term holiday lets. It is competitively priced with other four-person, two-bedroomed accommodation - yet this one is moored up on Glasgow's Forth and Clyde canal. Whether you enjoy sitting back with a drink in your hand watching the swans and geese swim by or head out to experience Glasgow's noisy nightlife, the Gerda of Glasgow will be for you.
