Warmth, welcome and a great week.
After lockdown we were all in need of a break out of city life. We couldn’t have asked for a better accommodation. The welcome we received was first class, even the kids commented on how nice Belinda was. She was very helpful and available if we needed anything although there was nothing that we needed apart from directions on how to navigate through the countryside. Everybody we met were extremely friendly and helpful. Made some of us crave the country lifestyle. ❤️ Definitely recommend this accommodation you will feel like your coming from home to home. We look forward to going back again one day. Thanks Belinda.

Marking Time in Markington
Cleanliness of the property is tough. That is A LOT of space to clean and it is aging and open to the elements and near horse stables. The adults dealt with minor issues and leaned more on the character and atmosphere and not on the struggle of the upkeep. The kids found every spider and insect. Bring additional games and toys. But that backyard was amazing. Check-in was great. Access to the Internet needs to be clearly posted. Listing is fine. The stove situation was a learning process. We figured things out and it worked out well enough. Bring music if you want it for a party. The location was a love/hate thing. Some of us ran in the morning down the roads and through the village. Some went for walks. Plenty of parking space. The Hussar, the local pub, saved the day with having space for 10 one night. But those roads in and out of the house stressed me out. Be prepared and cautious. But once out then depending on direction you could be almost anywhere within two hours. The place is unique. We had 10-12 staying with us and an additional 8-10 joined us almost every night and we never struggle for space or places to have private conversations. Great location for us. Tough to get back to but away from the hussle and bussle of downtown areas. Pack the fridge and stick around. Have a lawn party. Lover of horses then this place is for you. Just be prepared for a flashback in time and some learning curves. Enjoy because everyone did and we loved how they enjoyed coming over.

Fantastic birthday weekend
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Great hosting, we felt very at home. Beautiful walks right on the doorstep. We used a local private chef (French chef at home) and Indulge Deli Bar for catering - both fab.

Wonderful stay!
My family and I had a wonderful stay at Belinda's property. We were a group of 20 that included my 90 yr old Grandmother, 2 10 month old babies, and everything in between. Organising that many people was a task in itself and Belinda was so helpful and accommodating. She answered all of our bizarrely particular questions promptly, and was forthcoming in helping me figure out how to make all members of our group happy. The house itself was well equipped, with dreamy, comfortable beds, lovely soft linens and plenty of pillows. The kitchen had everything we needed to cater to a party of our size, although we ate most meals in the beautiful garden while the younger members of our group played tennis! There is a pub a short walk away, supermarkets a 15 minute drive and the lovelg town of Rippon only a little further. So all in all, ideally located. Check in was smooth, Belinda welcomed us personally, and even stopped by at check out to make sure we were happy. Barolin Farm is truly a peaceful, homely retreat and we are already looking at booking christmas here, although I'm sure it will be booked up for years to come!

About the host

Barolin Farm is the family home in which I grew up. I am the youngest of the Bartle family, renowned for their fame and success in the horse world. It adjoins the Yorkshire Riding Centre, which my mother founded in 1962. We enjoyed a wonderful and eccentric childhood here, wondering about the extensive grounds and riding constantly. Guests at Barolin Farm, are welcome to visit the horses and watch lessons taking place. Now my two daughters have grown up and fled the nest, and after a very successful stay at new years by a group of friends, we have now decided to make it available for groups to rent out. We receive plaudits for it's unique charm, comfort and suitability.

Why they chose this property

Barolin Farm was originally part of the Wilberforce estate built in the late 18th century, and it is very much a country house set in beautiful Yorkshire countryside between Harrogate and Ripon.

It is in a great situation for a rural retreat, surrounded by rolling Yorkshire countryside, half a mile outside the sleepy village of Markington.
Its perfectly located for access to Yorkshire's most popular tourist destinations; two miles from the great heritage site Fountains Abbey and six miles from Newby Hall.

What makes this property unique

Barolin Farm has 8 spacious bedrooms, sleeping 17 all en suite.
The large farmhouse kitchen with an Aga is very much the heart of the house.
Adjoining the kitchen is a snug area with solid fuel stove.
The large drawing room with log fire and the dining room make entertaining in this house a real occasion.

So there is plenty of room for large groups and all generations to enjoy.

The one acre walled garden on the South side of the house and the courtyard on the North provides ample traffic free safe space for children to let off steam.
There is also a tennis court to play in.
