Castle Cary station is on the London Paddington to Penzance line, with additional services to Weymouth, Plymouth and Bristol. The station opened in 1856 and the original offices and buildings, with their ornate awnings, are still in use. The station is about a mile north of Castle Cary town, which you can walk to in about half an hour along a footpath from the station and then through the village of Ansford. Or you could catch a bus from outside the station building. Castle Cary itself is an attractive town, with well-preserved historic buildings, such as the 15th-century George Inn, the 18th-century Roundhouse (a temporary prison) and the Market Hall, built in 1855 in anticipation of increased business with the coming of the railway.

Castle Cary is also the closest station to Glastonbury. During the festival, extra rail services run between Castle Cary, London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads. Free shuttle buses also run from the station to take you to the festival site. Find out more on our nearest station to Glastonbury Festival page.
