No smoking in the cottage please.

Our open plan kitchen and living room space is separated by a floating elm staircase. Children under seven require supervision on the stairs.
The kitchen space is well equipped for cooking with two ovens, one fan, one conventional. A microwave, dishwasher and induction hob. There is plenty space for relaxed dining.
A washing machine, freezer and ironing facility are situated in the utility room at the rear. This is the place for coats and muddy boots. Buckets and spades , (essential Pennan equipment) and room for a child's buggy. Adjacent to the Utility room is a bathroom with a shower and bidet.
Upstairs are two bedrooms and second shower room. The spacious main bedroom has a king size bed. A travel cot is available on request. The second bedroom has a double bed.

Our bedding is 100% Cotton with a 200/thread count.

Eco system Electric heating is supplemented by a wood burning stove.

Our large comfy sofa is great for lounging and easily accommodates two persons. Visualise a glass of wine, watching the ever changing sea, in front of the stove. Bliss!

Alternatively the kids might hog the space for the telly. Plenty of throws to snuggle up with.
We absolutely love the amazing views that we have from the majority of our windows. Even from the upstairs loo!
A favourite view of ours is watching the sunrise in the bay from the comfort of the bed in the main bedroom. Another is the window downstairs, which looks up to the famous Red Phone Box. An iconic part of the film Local Hero starring Burt Lancaster, which was partly filmed on location in Pennan in 1983.
Pennan is a wonderful base to explore the coastline and inland area. Whether you turn left/right or go straight over at the top of the brae, you will find an amazing choice of places to see and things to do.
Don’t forget to sample the excellent coffee and cake from Coastal Cuppa along at the harbour, or enjoy an excellent meal cooked for you at the Pennan Inn. Enjoy your holiday in Pennan.

Wonderful pennan
WONDERFUL LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. SCENERY SUBLIME ALONG A DRAMATIC COASTLINE. PROPERTY SITUATED ON A STRIP OF LAND BETWEEN THE NORTH SEA AND TOWERING SANDSTONE CLIFFS. PENNAN IS ACCESSED VIA A STEEP NARROW ROAD. THE JOURNEY IS WORTHWHILE ALONG WINDING COASTAL COUNTRY ROADS WITH GREAT VISTAS. EASY TO SEE WHY PART OF THE FAMOUS MOVIE LOCAL HERO WAS FILMED THERE. BE MINDFUL: THE NEAREST BIG SHOP IS 9.5MILES AWAY. LOCAL BUSINESS COASTAL CUPPIE SELLS HOT DRINKS AND LOVELY HOME BAKING. THE PUB IS OPEN THURSDAY TO SATURDAY – 6PM TO 10PM. LOG BURNING FIRE. OPEN PLAN LIVING. VERY COMFY SOFA ELEVATED TO MAXIMISE THE VIEW OF THE SEA. OVERALL, GREAT MODERN FACILITIES. GAMES FOR INDOOR DAYS. INTERESTING SELECTION OF BOOKS – SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE, GOOD TV RECEPTION. MOST IMPORTANTLY GOOD WIFI SIGNAL! 2 MODERN SHOWER SUITES. ALL TOWELS PERFECTLY LAUNDERED. 2 BEDROOMS: SPACIOUS MASTER FACING THE SEA. ALL MATRESSES AND PILLOWS CLEAN AND MAGNIFICENTLY COMFORTABLE. A FEW SMALL NIGGLY THINGS VERY QUICKLY RESOLVED BY THE OWNER. THERE IS A VERY SOPHISTICATED HEATING SYSTEM IN SITU. BE PATIENT – IT TAKES ITS TIME. DAVID & KATE (OWNERS) ON HAND TO HELP. PERFECT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A QUIET, RELAXING GETAWAY.

By the sea
We had a restful cosy stay at this comfortable cottage by the sea. We spent many hours just fascinated by tides and waves. The local Inn was very hospitable but unfortunately did not serve meals. Many National Trust properties nearby but check opening times.

About the host

Hosted by Kate Kelly

Host profile image
Welcome to our home. We are Kate and David Kelly and we have lived in our home for 14 years.
We moved to Glasgow to be nearer to grandchildren. We enjoy sharing our space with guests.
I have such wonderful memories of swimming with my friends and children in Pennan. Also of swimming at the next bay along at Cullyknan which is walking distance from Pennan.
Pennan is a wonderful place for everyone, but children adore it. The sound of their playing brings the village to life.

Why they chose this property

The obvious answer to this question has to be that it’s in Pennan.
Pennan is a magical place where you tune into “Pennan time”. Life outside your cottage takes place on the Bankhead. This is where people come together to "news". This is where you hang up your washing and discuss the prospects of it getting dry.

It is not unusual to set off to the bins at the far end of the village with rubbish and recycling and not return for hours.

Location
Whether your thing is eating out, watching Dolphins at the centre up the road in Moray, visiting the numerous castles and museums, learning to surf at Banff 12 miles, west, or using your own equipment for kitesurfing at Fraserburgh 11 miles east, listening to the truly awesome voices of the monks at Pluscarden Abbey near Elgin, or watching the bird life at Troup Head Nature Reserve 2 miles west, it is all accessible from Pennan.

If you are an enthusiastic cyclist, bring your bike. The former Buchan Line has been converted into a walkway and cycle path. We have a fenced off garden area for storage.
For dining there many restaurants and takeout food nearby in Fraserburgh -Banff- Peterhead.
You might prefer to cook up some fresh fish from Macduff or Fraserburgh on the Bankhead. Nothing beats an alfresco meal on the Bankhead in summer outside Purple Windows.

What makes this property unique

Occupying a seafront location, the majority of our windows look out to the ever-changing sea.
We are also really fortunate that with a private garden at the back, we have the best of both worlds and guests can retreat from the Bankhead if they wish.
