The Great Southern Hotel is great for the price ($100 for a standard Queen Room). I was on the 3rd floor with a room overlooking Spencer Street. It was slightly noisy with the trams going past but comfortable and I got a good night’s sleep. It’s a great location and the trip to and from the Palais Theatre was easy peasy. So I’d happily recommend it.

Great location for starting a train journey, literally crossing over the road and there in two minutes. Reception polite helpful and open 24hourly. Clean basic room. Great value.

Our room was musty and damp smelling. I eventually discovered that the carpet was wet from a leaking shower. To their credit, they immediately moved us. Both rooms showed indications of very basic cleaning. Dirty grout in showers, water marks and hand marks on glass and dusty corners. This could be a very good hotel but cost cutting in maintenance and cleaning really lets it down!

Hotel room was dirty bathroom had mould in it and had a strong smell of urine. We could hardly sleep with all the banging and the noise. When I complained was just told sorry and sent an email with a complaint and received no reply. We checked out early as the hotel was substandard and a health hazard especially having my young son with me.
