The country of Wissembourg
Enchanting villages
Seebach, Hunspach, Drachenbronn, Birlenbach, Schleithal, Bremmelbach, Ingolsheim, Niederseebach
Browse the opulent villages of the agricultural plain, the rural world opens up to you and shares its joy of living.
The Pays de Wissembourg is a magnificent concentrate of rural Alsace. Do not forget to visit the charming vineyards villages, Ingolsheim and its imposing farms of the 19th century before going to Hunspach and Seebach. Then continue along Schleithal, the longest village-street in Alsace, then to Drachenbronn and Birlenbach to Schoenenbourg. On the front of the Maginot Line, these last villages spared by the Second World War, have retained a traditional character with remarkable sets of half-timbered houses of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
It is here, in the Outre-Forêt that beats the heart of traditional Alsace, with its customs, its folklore, its dialects still very used especially in the Alsatian theater.
The Outre-Forêt is the country of picturesque villages. Classified among the most beautiful villages in France, Hunspach and Seebach are famous for their white half-timbered houses, with their awning roofs, curved panes ... well maintained and carefully flowered. It is in Seebach that wears the most beautiful costume of Alsace in particular the day of the reconstituted marriage of the "Streisselhochzeit" in July. It is not uncommon, however, to see elements of this costume worn by some inhabitants daily in farm yards or Sunday on the street.
