Nikka Yoichi 10 years old A ten year old, elegantly peaty single malt from Nikka's beautiful Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido, where whisky is made as it used to be in Scotland with small direct-fired stills and matured in the finest wood the company can find. Bottled at 45% for extra oomph. Well worth the money in quality terms. NOSE Fabulous umami-rich nose, brimming with herbs, balsamic vinegar and savoury peat. A clean fresh fragrance with notes of peat, light smoke and spice. PALATE A medicinal/iodine note is accompanied by rich dried fruit, herbal notes and spicy touches. More light peat with some rounded vanilla and tobacco coming from the oak casks. FINISH Rich, peaty and satisfying. Excellent balance between the fruit and oak with some light fruit and flower elements coming through. COMMENT There’s a big peatiness to this whisky, sure, but there’s also plenty of fruit and spice to balance things out. #dreambar
