When you’re not exploring Sicily or sunbathing on the beach, you’ll likely spend most of your time on the terrace. You’ll find this apartment in the heart of Ortigia, the historical centre of Syracuse. As an open-plan space, it’s perfect for a couple keen to base themselves within easy reach of the city’s main attractions. So, while the home lacks natural light, its enviable location makes up for it – you’re likely to spend most of your time strolling the cobbled, sunny streets. While out and about, check out the historic market where you can pick up some local produce, and head to the Piazza Duomo, Ortigia’s central square, for coffee as you people-watch in the Sicilian sun.

Steps from the sea, this villa offers endless Mediterranean views and beach access from the garden. One of the best spots to admire the panoramas is on the roof terrace, where you can lounge with a glass of wine and watch the coastal sunsets. The above-ground swimming pool, outdoor kitchen, and covered terrace are excellent additions, too. Head inside and you'll find a contemporary (though compact) living area and several clean-lined bedrooms. As for location, the Baroque town of Modica is 20 kilometres away, while Noto is just a bit further. And, alongside the rocky shore on your doorstep, there's a sandy beach only 900m away.

Eternal Indigo

This apartment is New-York-style loft living in the centre of Como. It’s brimming with inspiration for creative types, from the picturesque surroundings of Lake Como (easily explored by water taxi) to the architecturally marvellous interior. The open bathroom won’t be for everyone – with a huge rainfall shower in the centre of the open loft and a spa-like bath enclosed. But there’s a standard shower room with a door for those who prefer privacy. It feels like an old warehouse in the vast, open living space with a sleek chrome kitchen, banquet-sized dining table and desks to work remotely. Art and books take centre stage, strewn about the room with a TV on the floor like an afterthought.

The rural location makes it an ideal spot for a relaxing retreat, whilst also providing easy access to the cultural centre of Noto and the sands of Lido di Noto.

Located in the heart of the Val di Noto, this contemporary hideaway offers peace, privacy and beautiful views. Outside, you can spend leisurely days by the swimming pool. There are also two terraces and a barbecue – making it easy to savour the sweetness of Italian living. Families will appreciate the games room and the open-plan living space. Plus, children’s amenities can be arranged on request and well-behaved pets are welcome with prior approval from the host. You will need to bring your own essentials, but it’s just a 5-kilometre drive to the nearest amenities in Rosolini, while the nearest beaches are just 15 kilometres away.

This Sardinian villa is all about views of the turquoise sea. Mediterranean gardens lead down to the swimming pool and water’s edge where you can paddle in the rocky shallows. A short walk away, you’ll find sandy beaches and Villasimius' pretty marina. Pets are allowed, with the first pet staying free of charge and an additional fee of €15 for the second pet. City tax of €1 per person per night is applicable starting from 1 night up to a maximum of 10 nights.
