Quaint and cosy, this A-frame cabin in the heart of Lake Tahoe is a secluded retreat for small families and groups of friends. The wood-panelled walls, tall windows and lofty ceilings make this a home that's an inviting hug at each corner, a rustic reminder of the alphabet's first letter. The open layout is perfect for socialising – everyone can feel included, whether you're rustling up dinner in the kitchen, watching a movie in the living area or chatting around the dining table. We can’t think of a better place to unwind than on the deck, which boasts lake views and comfortable lounge chairs to sink into after a long day. Plus on warmer evenings, there's a barbecue perfect for outdoor dining, at one with the woods. Hikers will love the proximity to the area's many trails, while skiers can make the short trip to Alpine Meadows to hit the slopes. This home also comes with access to a gated beach just a five-minute drive away, so you'll never be short on things to do.

Home truths

The master bathroom layout is a little quirky – the sink is in the bedroom while the toilet and shower are in adjoining rooms

Taller guests may want to avoid the sloped ceilings in the upstairs bedroom

This home can accommodate six adults at a squeeze – we think it's better suited to four or five

You'll need to be over 25 years old to book this home

Younger guests will need to be watched over on the stairs, as there are gaps in the stairs and the railing
