There’s a real sense of magic to this historic barn. A stay here is like stepping out of time into a beautiful rural dream – a terracotta-coloured vision, surrounded by wildflowers. The exterior renders the modern living area something of a surprise, but it really does work. A contemporary kitchen and floor-to-ceiling windows sit alongside original beams and a spiral staircase – it’s the best of old and new. We especially love the second bedroom with its fairytale-style beds (guaranteed to deliver an enchanted sleep). Outside, a babbling stream runs alongside the private garden. We can see ourselves drinking a glass of wine on summer evenings at the outdoor table, looking out over the river meadow as the sun goes down. If you can tear yourself away from your country bolt-hole, the neighbouring footpath leads right to Castle Combe. You’re also a short walk from the local pub and the honey-coloured villages of the Cotswolds await.
